Marian’s fun talk illustrated in sound and pictures is a nostalgic journey taking us back over a century of change, revealing the remarkable impact radio and TV gardening programmes have had on the
survival of our gardens and allotments from the 1920s to today.
Marian Foster is a broadcaster, TV presenter and documentary maker. She was the first weather girl and
later the first woman news anchor at TyneTeesTV in the 1960s and made her name nationally as a co-presenter of the popular original BBC Pebble Mill at One programme in the 1970s and 1980s. She has worked
alongside Alan Titchmarsh, presented programmes from RHS Chelsea and had a rose named after her.
Marian is a judge for Northumbria in Bloom and still produces the award winning gardener’s phone in ‘Garden Mania’
for BBC Newcastle every Sunday 9-10am.

Isobel Shaw runs a small plant business focusing on unusual and heritage herbaceous perennials.
She is also developing her garden which is in a challenging situation on a hillside near Wallington Hall.
Isobel will suggest ways to help you enjoy your garden through the seasons and show pictures of her garden throughout.

Jane Williams, Head Chocolatier at Davenport’s chocolates, will give a fascinating talk about chocolate and
the opportunity to try some amazing samples. Along with her husband they set up Davenport’s Chocolates
nearly 12 years ago and have been creating handcrafted chocolates ever since. Jane has a great passion
for her craft and will delight in sharing both the story of her journey so far, as well as giving you an insight
into how her chocolates and Easter Eggs are made, and the context of the global chocolate scene.
